ASUW candidate filing ends Friday

Those sitting on the fence need to hurry: the time to file as a candidate for an ASUW office ends tomorrow.

Candidate packets are available in the Student Activities Office (SAO), located on the second floor of the HUB. The packet includes all the needed paperwork and a collection of the election's guidelines and fair-campaign statement. Completed packets need to be turned into the same office by 5 p.m. Friday.

In addition to an optional black-and-white photo, candidates need to provide five pieces of information to the SAO:

*The main filing form. This includes information such as name, address and phone numbers, and also a space for three qualifications, a place to list involved organizations and an agreement to follow the fair-campaign statement.

*A copy of the most recent grade report.

*A copy of the 2001 spring quarter class schedule.

*A platform statement. This needs to be both delivered through an e-mail and as a hard copy. The platform statement needs to list the planks and stances the candidate will campaign on. Usually this includes goals for the ASUW, proposed changes and other reasons to vote.

*The preliminary financial disclosure form. This lets the candidate list donated goods and services for the campaign, along with expenditures to date and anticipated expenditures. On May 11, the day after voting is over and the winners have been announced, another financial disclosure form will be needed, detailing all the campaigns and services from the campaign.

Following the deadline for filings, all candidates are required to attend an ethics meeting, where the rules governing the ASUW elections will be explained. Candidates can ask questions and check the permissibility of their campaign plans and student groups will be allowed to explain how their endorsement procedure will work.
