Beijing awarded 2008 Olympics

By a large margin, Beijing was named the host city for the 2008 Summer Olympics. The Chinese capital lost the 2000 games to Syndey amidst a flurry of accusations against China's human rights' record. Neville retires after 10 years as Husky volleyball coach

Bill Neville, who coached Husky volleyball with an amassed record of 126 wins and 136 losses, announced his retirement effective immediately on July 17. A national search is being conducted to find a successor. After arriving at the UW in 1991, Neville led the Huskies to three NCAA tournaments, including a slot in the 1997 Sweet Sixteen. Neville did not give specific reasons for his decision to retire, other than it was in the best interests of his family, his self and the volleyball program, and that he was preparing to "move on to new challenges."
