2 Huskies become millionaires
Former Husky quarterback Marques Tuiasosopo signed a six- year, $3.7 million contract with the Oakland Raiders. Tuiasosopo was voted PAC-10 offensive player of the year and Rose Bowl MVP last season.
The New York Nets signed former Husky center Todd MacCulloch. MacCulloch received a six-year, $4.2 million contract last Thursday.
Amazon.com makes deal with AOL; may anger Microsoft
Amazon.com yesterday announced a five-year contract with America Online, one of Microsoft's competitors. Jeff's Bezos, Amazon's founder, had previously met with Bill Gates to market Office XP on the company's Web site.
The contract involves a marketing deal, where Amazon's services will be advertised to AOL's 30 million users. Amazon agreed to promote AOL is its Internet service provider.
U.S. the only nation to back out of Kyoto pact
On Monday afternoon 178 nations agreed to salvage the Kyoto Protocol, a pact created in 1997 to reduce global warming. Industrialized nations called for a gradual transition away from fossil fuels and toward renewable energy.
President George W. Bush refused to sign the pact, although he had promised in his campaign to impose mandatory controls on carbon dioxide emissions.
