UW to host 2004 NCAA Tournament games
The UW was selected to host the first- and second- round NCAA Tournament games at Key Arena on March 18 and 20, 2004, the NCAA Men's Basketball Committee announced last Friday. The men's basketball tournament returns to Seattle for the first time since 1999 when first- and second round games were contested at Key Arena. Tickets will go on sale the year before the competition.
Air crash near Irkutsk, Russia, kills 143
All 133 passengers and 10 crew members aboard a Russian Tupolev 154 airliner were killed Tuesday when the plane crashed and burst into flames near the Siberian city of Irkutsk, Russian government authorities said. The cause of the crash is not yet known. The Tu-154 has been involved in 28 major disasters since it was first commissioned in 1968.
American teenagers poorly educated . . . blame the French
CBS evening news reported that 18 percent of American high school students think the United States gained independence from France. For those within that percentile who have managed to make into the UW, the American Revolution was fought against the British, not the French.
