Get involved in the pipeline of encouragement reaching out to Seattle-area schools
November 26, 2002
The Pipeline Project is a K-12 outreach program that links undergraduate students from the UW with educational and service opportunities within the Seattle Public Schools through tutoring and mentoring. It is housed in the Office of Undergraduate Education and works closely with the Carson Center and the Office of Educational Partnerships, as well as numerous campus departments and programs involved in similar outreach.
There are five facets of the Pipeline Project that you can become involved in.
Volunteer
Step into the Seattle-area schools and volunteer with students in K-12. Pipeline offers two orientation sessions on Mondays and Wednesdays that are necessary for participation. It is necessary to do a police check to work with the kids.
Service-learning
Get your classes in sync with your community service and work with the Carlson Center to get school-based service-learning placements for a wide range of classes.
Inner pipeline
This is what Shelley is doing, volunteering and receiving credit through an educational seminar that focuses on general K-12 tutoring, math and science, booking-making, or art.
Focus training
Take a seminar or class through Pipeline; it will enhance skills and knowledge.
Alternative spring break
Pipeline gives students the opportunity to volunteer their spring break in a rural community in Washington working with students on a literacy project.

I think this website is ugly.
It's going to be a work in progress all summer, so it may look and act differently from week to week. If you want to influence this process, email us. We read every email, and respond to most of them.
