After Turkey day, the Husky volleyball team heads to Stockton, Calif., for its final pre-NCAA tune-up -- the University of the Pacific Classic.

The four-team tournament also includes the University of Nevada, Southwest Missouri State and host University of the Pacific. The UW is scheduled to play SW Missouri State (21-7) Friday night, then will face either Nevada (21-8) or Pacific (17-11) Saturday.

Husky coach Jim McLaughlin knows that this is a good opportunity for his team.

"We didn't want to go too long without a match," McLaughlin said. "It'll help prepare us for the NCAA tournament."

The Huskies (17-10) will likely have their hands full. All three teams come in with winning records and finishing fourth or higher in their respective conference.

"It's a good tournament, there are three very good teams playing in it," said McLaughlin.

Make that four. The Huskies finished their regular season fifth in the Pac-10 with their best record since their 1997 Sweet 16 season. This week also saw several players and one coach receive postseason honors. Seniors Paige Benjamin, who was second in the Pac-10 in kills (5.24 per game), and Gretchen Maurer, who averaged a league-leading 13.11 assists per game, were both named to the Pac-10 all-conference first team, the first time in either of their careers.

Sophomore Sanja Tomasevic was an honorable mention pick and freshman Candace Lee was named to the all-freshman team. McLaughlin was also named Pac-10 coach of the year.
