Quarter winds down with no arrest in foiled abduction
June 5, 2002
The UW Police Department (UWPD) is no closer to an arrest in the attempted abduction of a UW student since the investigation began last month.
Two white males in a white pick-up truck followed a woman, who has yet to be identified, while she was jogging on Stevens Way near Anderson Hall on May 2 at 11:30 p.m. As the truck neared the student, the man sitting in the passenger seat grabbed her by the arm and attempted to force her into the truck, but the student broke away and was able to call the UWPD.
The two men remain at large.
According to UWPD Assistant Chief Annette Spicuzza, there have been no developments in the case in the past month. No witnesses have come forward and the UWPD has not named a suspect. Spicuzza added that no similar abduction attempts have been reported in the area.
"It was just one of those moments of opportunity," Spicuzza said of the rarity of the incident.
According to a release by the UWPD, the passenger of the pick-up was likely between 45 and 50 years old, and had salt-and-pepper hair and a moustache. At the time of the incident, he wore a pair of yellow-tinted glasses and a dark leather jacket.
The driver was only described as a white male between 40 and 45 years old.
The truck was a new full-sized white pick-up with an open bed. On the bed was a silver railing about six-inches high. The truck had some type of writing on the door that may or may not have been a decal.
The UWPD urges anyone with information related to this or any similar incident to contact Detective Leif Granrud at 685-2559.
