ASUW Elections
It is time to unite
Several articles sparked by Jason Chambers' article last week ("A different kind of diversity," May 21) have left many wondering about the night when election results were announced, as well as the cohesion of the newly elected ASUW Board of Directors (BOD). As the president-elect, I would like to offer my perspective on that night, as well as the potential future of the ASUW.
When I returned to the second-floor lobby on the night of May 15, I noticed several individuals asking David Owens questions. Although the atmosphere was very emotional, what I witnessed was a civil exchange of questions and answers. Such exchanges will be essential if we are to hold our ASUW accountable.
The newly elected BOD represents a variety of political and ideological backgrounds. The challenge that faces all of us is to put aside our differences and focus on common goals that will enhance student life and increase student voice. Regardless of our party affiliation, we can come together and make a difference. This is true of our campus as a whole. We have power in numbers. It is time to unite.
If anyone has further questions or ideas for next year, please contact me at asuwvp@u.washington.edu or 543-1780.

I think this website is ugly.
