The Washington track-and-field team will head to Sacramento, Calif., Wednesday for the final event of the outdoor season -- the NCAA championships. Nine Huskies will vie for national titles; last year, only four UW athletes qualified for the competition.

Senior Courtney Inman, a 1,500-meter runner, and sophomore pole-vaulter Kate Soma are taking their second career trips to the meet. Inman, who finished in 10th place last year in her event, qualified for this year's competition with a third-place finish at last weekend's west regional championships. Soma placed 16th at the 2001-02 NCAA meet.

Only one Husky, senior Heather Reichmann, who secured an at-large berth this week, will be representing Washington in a throwing event, the javelin. Brittiny Roberts, a junior, will compete in the triple jump; six mid- and long-distance runners round out the participant list.
