Lillibridge named to national baseball team
July 1, 2003
For the first time in six years, a Husky is on the USA Baseball national team.
Brent Lillibridge, who played center field for Washington this spring but is expected to play shortstop next year, was named to the team, the organization announced after making final cuts Friday. Chris Magruder was the last Husky to play on the team in 1997.
Lillibridge, who was a freshman last spring, finished the season with a .388 batting average, the highest on the team. He also set the school record for freshman homers at 13 and was selected to the All-Pac-10 first team.
The USA team's first game is today in Durham, N.C., against Japan. The team will play against Mexico later in the summer before traveling to the Dominican Republic for the Pan-American Games.
