Charles "Chuck" Carroll, former UW running back and King County prosecutor, died last Monday at Swedish Hospital. He was 96 years old.

Carroll won All-American honors in 1928 when he scored 17 touchdowns, the highest total in Husky history until Corey Dillon scored 23 in 1996. During that season he scored a school-record 36 points with six touchdowns against Puget Sound.

He is one of only three football players to have his number, 2, retired. He followed his collegiate success with a productive professional career, getting inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame in 1964.

Graduating from UW Law in 1932, Carroll served as a prosecutor for King County from 1948 to 1970. His 22-year career ended with a corruption scandal, according to the Associated Press.
