Moore-Reeploeg remains student regent
July 15, 2003
David Moore-Reeploeg's undergraduate career at the UW may be over; however, it appears the student regent will continue to vote on policies affecting the University.
Gov. Gary Locke has yet to choose a replacement for Moore-Reeploeg, whose term should have ended in May. Locke appoints all members of the state's higher-education governing boards. Student regents have year-long terms, while the nine other regents serve six years.
Locke did not choose a new student regent last month because the ASUW did not send information about the three applicants until June 2, according to the governor's office. Senior Daya Mortel, senior Matt Hendrickson and Miguel Bocanegra, a third-year law student, are ASUW's candidates for the position.
Moore-Reeploeg said yesterday he dtd not have any complaints about serving a longer term, but he said he felt as if he were in "limbo" because he could be replaced a day before Friday's meeting. Nevertheless, Moore-Reeploeg met with Julia Harrison, the Graduate and Professional Student Senate's new president, yesterday afternoon to discuss the University's operating and capital budgets. He will meet with new ASUW President Brittany Goodnight today for the same reason. The Board of Regents is scheduled to vote on the budget Friday.
