Husky men's golf declines Hooters' hospitality

When the second-annual Hooters Collegiate Match Play Championship is held in Florida this November, Washington's men's golf team will not be in attendance.

Of the 32 teams invited to the Hooters tournament, 31 teams accepted the invitation; Washington was the only team to decline. The event features the top-16 men's and women's golf teams, based on the teams' finishes in the NCAA golf championships. This year, Husky men's golf placed 11th.

Washington participated in the event last year, but this year, Marie Tuite, associate athletic director for sports programs and student services, refused the invitation. Tuite cited a NCAA statement released earlier this year, which discourages NCAA schools from participating in events "sponsored or supported by organizations that portray women in a degrading and demeaning manner."

Instead of participating in the Hooters-sponsored event, Husky golfers will be playing golf in Japan, according to Tuite.

Tuite said she has never eaten at a Hooters restaurant.
