Neuheisel files appeal

Attorneys for fired UW football coach Rick Neuheisel have filed an appeal with UW vice president Norm Arkans, contesting the coach's June 11 termination.

While Neuheisel's attorney, Bob Sulkin, has acknowledged the unlikelihood that Neuheisel will reclaim his job, he said the hearing will set the groundwork for a potential lawsuit against the University.

Millions of University dollars ride on whether or not the coach was terminated with just cause. If Neuheisel is found to have been terminated without just cause, his $1.5 million loan will be forgiven and the University will owe him at least $2.1 million to buy out his contract.

A hearing deadline of July 25 has been set. At that time, Neuheisel and his team of attorneys will meet with Arkans. Unless Arkans overturns UW Athletic Director Barbara Hedges decision to terminate Neuheisel, July 25 will be Neuheisel's final day of employment.
