Women compete in Las Vegas showdown
November 1, 2004
The Washington women's golf team returns to action for the first time since Oct. 17 today at the Las Vegas Founder's Collegiate Showdown.
The 54-hole tournament begins today and continues until Wednesday at the Anthem Country Club in Henderson, Nev.
In the Huskies last time on the links, the squad shot a 21-over 861 to finish third at the Stanford Intercollegiate. It was the third straight tournament this fall that the UW has finished in the top three -- the Huskies came in second at both the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational and The Fall Classic.
Junior Paige Mackenzie carded her best gross score at the college level as well as the second-best 54-hole score in Husky history with an even-par 210 at Stanford.
Washington moved up two spots to No. 3 in the latest Golfweek Collegiate Rankings. Mackenzie has the UW's top individual ranking at No. 13, leading the team with a 73.11 stroke average. Freshman Kim Shin ranked in at No. 17, averaging 73.22 strokes.
