Why no one should have to spend Christmas in Texas

The holidays are approaching and, once again, I am looking at spending another Christmas in Texas. Some people may think that it would be nice to get away from the cold weather, experience a warm winter. However, these people are very uninformed because, unfortunately, it is just as cold in Texas and even more miserable than the 120 days of constant rain in Seattle.

I will be spending Christmas at my grandfather's house in Irving, Texas. Irving is a dry town. This means there is no alcohol available or sold in this town. Apparently, according to the people of Irving, alcohol is a product of the devil that does not go along with their strong religious morals and values. It's not like I will be desperate for alcohol, but just the fact that there will be none around during all of the time I will be spending with my family really scares me.

And speaking of alcohol, if you go to Texas during Christmas time, you are very likely to have the opportunity to go to a BYOB (bring your own booze) barbeque wedding, like I am. My 20-year-old cousin is getting married, and apparently there will be some great barbeque. Good thing I am a vegetarian. Also, because this wedding is in Irving, they can't serve alcohol and if people want it, they will have to sneak it in.

But all and all, Texas isn't really that bad. And since it is the holidays, maybe Pres. George W. Bush will be at his ranch and I'll end up running into him at the local Wal-Mart, where all the cool Texans go to hang out.

So, as miserable and as tired as you may be of the rainy weather up here in Seattle, just remember that you could have it worse. You could be a vegetarian in Texas, in a dry town, at a barbeque wedding. Believe me when I say that no one should have to spend Christmas in Texas.
