Lollapalooza has announced the cancellation of its 2004 tour, marking the end of an era in rock music. Since 1991, the nation-wide tour has been a staple in rock culture. Due to financial losses, the tour will not proceed in July as planned.

Lollapalooza has roots as a Seattle music festival. This year's tour was supposed to kick off at the White River Amphitheater and featured bands like Modest Mouse and The Flaming Lips.

On the tour's Web site, Lollapalooza founder and rock visionary Perry Farrell posted an emotional apology to the fans and musicians who were looking forward to the tour.

"I want you to know that I fought for our lives into the final hour," Perry wrote. "My prayer is that we live to fight another day and walk together at the victory parade."

At this time, there are no plans for a tour next summer.
