Parting shots: Scott King

As I write this column am reminded of that Doors song... "The End." Why? Because after four years eating, sleeping, programming, working... this issue marks the end of my time spent at The Daily.

Most of you are wondering who the heck I am, and what significant contribution I have made to The Daily. I know I would be thinking the same thing myself. Heck, this column didn't even make it into the print issue of the paper. The truth is, I've made a bigger contribution to this paper over the last four years than many people realize. I'm like the guy in all-black working the stage at a concert, or the chef at a restaurant... you know, the person without a face who works behind the scenes to make everything just right. In my case, the job was as the Systems Administrator for The Daily.

Never in the spot light, never writing controversial pieces, never taking your classifieds or display ads... just the man making all the gears fit together and run smoothly. In any case, this webpage your reading is here because of me. (Just don't blame me for the ads!) And the Virtual Ave. And the crisp photos in the paper. And the searchable archives website. And the better print quality in the paper over the past year... yep, I worked on all that stuff. But, taking a more humble approach, it was the work of my staff and other people to make those visions a reality.

And with time running out, I must say Goodbye. Thanks for all the good times and great experiances. Thanks for helping me pay for school (and my new Jetta). Thanks. I'll remember everyone who I worked with; you were all great! And make sure you all come back in 2010 for the Grand Opening of the Oren Campbell Center for Journalism! (as long as I make my millions on schedule)

I think this website is ugly.
