Lincecum named Pac-10 pitcher, freshman of the year
Washington freshman Tim Lincecum was the recipient of both Pac-10 pitcher and freshman of the year honors, and was also named as a second-team All-American yesterday.
Three other Huskies -- sophomore center fielder Brent Lillibridge, junior first baseman Kyle Larsen and sophomore left fielder Zach Clem -- were selected to be on the All-Pac-10 first team.
Lincecum, who finished the regular season with a 10-2 mark and set the UW single-season record with a league-leading 151 strikeouts, is the first Washington player to earn both conference honors in one season.
His strikeout mark is the second best in the nation, while his .210 opposing batting average tops the league list. He was the only freshman hurler in the Pac-10 to log more than 100 innings of work on the mound this year.
This is the second year Lillibridge, who enters the postseason riding a 14-game hitting streak, has been named to the Pac-10 first team.
Six additional Huskies picked up an honorable mention for conference play: senior reliever Trent Baysinger, junior reliever Will Fenton, junior catcher Aaron Hathaway, senior second baseman Greg Isaacson and senior third baseman John Otness.
