Former Western Carolina Athletic Director Jeff Compher has joined the Husky athletic staff, UW Athletic Director Todd Turner announced Monday.

Compher will take the newly created title of executive associate director of athletics, serving as the general manager for the Washington athletic department.

"Jeff took over the reins of Western's athletics program at a time when it was not achieving athletically or academically at a level the university wanted and deserved, and he moved the program to where it is competitive athletically and student-athletes graduate at increasingly high rates," said Western Carolina Chancellor John W. Bardo.

At Western Carolina, the Catamounts' overall operating budget increased by 42 percent with Compher as athletic director, and the total budget for athletic scholarships increased by 113 percent.

Compher currently serves on the NCAA's Sportsmanship and Ethical Conduct Committee.
