Former Husky Heather Tarr has been selected to take the helm as coach of the scandal-plagued UW women's softball team.

Ken Winstead, associate athletic director, announced Tarr's appointment at a news conference yesterday.

This will be Tarr's first stint as head coach; she spent six seasons with the Pacific softball program, where she was part of the 2001 National Fastpitch Coaches Association West Region coaching staff of the year.

While Tarr said she did not want to wipe the program's slate clean, she said she would not be considering interim co-coaches Scott Centala and Steve Dailey for assistant positions.

Tarr will receive $78,000 per year. Former softball coach Theresa Wilson was paid $92,724 at the time of her departure. Tarr's contract is for three years.
