UW iPod cases to be available at Book Store
October 28, 2005
The Princeton Review quoted a UW student as saying "some friends of mine joke that the UW 'starter pack' includes a North Face jacket, a Nalgene water bottle and an iPod."
Now, students with the requisite iPods will soon be able to purchase protective cases with the UW's logo on them.
The University Book Store will begin selling the UW iPod covers, along with the vast array of UW memorabilia it carries, when the covers become available in mid-November, bookstore employee Kandi Field said. The cases will retail at $29.95 each.
The cases, which are white with a purple 'W' on them, are the brain product of Incase Designs, which makes an array of carrying case products for laptops and other electronics. InCase has chosen 10 university logos to feature on iPod cases.
Incase spokesperson Scotty Crowe said the company chose school logos to feature based on institutions with strong local and national appeal.
Schools with a history of basketball and football victories were also a big factor in choosing which school logos to feature, Crowe added.
"We wanted to make sure the covers were available before the end of football season," Crowe said. He denied that the company made the cases primarily to tap into the growing iPod market.
The latest iPod accessory is primarily college memorabilia, he said.
"iPods are such an incredible phenomenon and are becoming more accessible and affordable for college kids," Crowe said.
