Basketball doesn't stop with school

Assuming all goes as planned, the No. 13 Huskies should extend their early season win streak over the holidays to 10 games.

It would be the 11th time in school history that a Washington hoops squad opened the season 10-0, the first time since the 1975-76 team began the year 14-0. The school record is an 18-0 start, posted in the 1928-29 season.

Beyond the New Mexico game this weekend, the Huskies will play two more home games before conference play begins. In total, 14 of UW's first 15 games will be played at Hec Ed.

Washington will host Eastern Washington Dec. 16 and Lehigh Dec. 23.

The Huskies have never played against Lehigh, a Patriot League team. Against Eastern, the Huskies have a 5-1 record, with an 89-56 win last season.

UW forward Mike Jensen, sidelined after shoulder surgery before the season, is scheduled to return against Lehigh. Washington coach Lorenzo Romar confirmed that Jensen is on track, healthy and ready to return.

Jensen, a senior, started all but one game last season before re-injuring his shoulder during preseason practices in September.

The conference season kicks off Dec. 29 with the Huskies again playing at home. Arizona State comes first, followed by a showdown with Arizona on New Year's Eve.

Washington has triumphed in five of its last six meetings with Arizona. Most recently, the No. 14 Huskies beat the No. 8 Wildcats in the Pac-10 Tournament. Both teams have been ranked in each of their last three meetings.

The Wildcats have struggled early this season, with a surprising loss to Houston last weekend.

Before fully jumping into the conference schedule, the UW will play one more non-conference opponent, hosting Cornell Jan. 2.
