Club Connection
February 24, 2005
This is such a great week for concerts, featuring everything from a lip-synch queen to Seattle's favorite rapper, that I'm probably not going to get much more sleep than usual.
Tonight Ashlee Simpson will be performing over at the Paramount Theater ($37.50, all ages, show at 8 p.m.). She might or might not actually sing any notes;
I have no idea what's on the agenda for the evening. One thing is for certain: Simpson will definitely be entertaining. Unfortunately Head Automatica has cancelled all of its remaining dates on the Subcity Take Action Tour ($17, all ages, doors open at 7 p.m.). It has been said that singer Daryl Palumbo has been diagnosed with Crohn's disease. Anberlin highlights the loud-rock lineup at El Corazon.
Tomorrow night is going to be a ton of fun. For those who didn't rock their socks off last night at El Corazon, go catch the Eighteen Visions show ($12, all ages, show at 8 p.m.). Floater will be performing a set over at Neumo's ($10, 21 and up, show at 9:30 p.m.). Seattle punk rockers the Hollowpoints will be rockin' an all-ages show at the Vera Project ($8, all ages, show at 8 p.m.). Alternative country fans should head over to the Sunset Tavern for an early show from An American Starlet ($5, 21 and up, show at 7 p.m.) and stay late for the Joel RL Phelps show ($7, 21 and up, show at 9 p.m.).
Saturday, Collective Soul will be performing at Neumo's ($25, 21 and up, show at 7 p.m.). Even though the show is sold out, it's a rare opportunity to see a band of its stature in a venue as small as Neumo's. Sage Francis's Healthy Distrust Tour, at the Show Box, will be the show for Seattle's hip-hop fans ($15, all ages, show at 9 p.m.). Ian MacKaye, formerly of Minor Threat and Fugazi, will be performing with his group The Evens over at the Vera Project ($6, all ages, show at 8 p.m.). The group's highly anticipated new CD is due out on March 8.
Robbers On High Street will be rockin' the Crocodile Cafe Sunday night ($8, all ages, show at 7 p.m.). This New York-based trio has been making a name for themselves since their 2004 debut, Fine Lines.
Tuesday, modern-day bluesman Kenny Wayne Shepherd will be stopping by The Show Box ($25, 21 and up, show at 9 pm.). If blues isn't your thing, check out the WB tour at the Moore Theater featuring Michelle Branch ($25, all ages, show at 8 p.m.). If you want to rock, then head over to El Corazon for a set from Kane Hodder ($8 with a can of food, all ages, show at 7 p.m.).
Last but not least, Sir Mix-A-Lot, Seattle's favorite hip-hop icon, will be performing at the Show Box ($5, 21 and up, show at 9 p.m.). If you've never seen the Mix then head on over because you sure cannot beat the price.
Well, that's not everything, but it is all that's fit to print. Until next week, these are my picks and I'm stickin' to 'em.
