Democrats break promises, cast blame

I would like to thank Erika Monges for her piece "Broken promises burden economy" (March 30). The piece is written clearly and provides soundly structured evaluations of Gov. Christine Gregoire's tax proposal. I voted for Gregoire based on her statement that she would fund a stem-cell research institute at the state level, which actually conformed to the Republican policy of separating the federal executive order from state initiatives.

Now we discover that Gregoire's principal points of stem-cell research funding any tax increase restraint were simply intended only to generate votes for herself.

While state employees perform valuable services and to a high standard of conduct, we find tax increases contribute significantly to the continued stifling of the state economy.

The causes for the problems in the city, tri-county and state economies are not found in the White House, yet since the passing of former Sen. Henry Jackson, local Democrats have built their careers on deflecting analysis away from their own egregious errors by casting blame on others.

Monges writes and thinks clearly and with good insight, which together provides illumination to readers. I look forward to the privilege and the enjoyment of reading her future works.
