Quarterback spot still up for competition
August 17, 2005
Who will start at quarterback for the Huskies' season opener is still up in the air.
According to The Seattle Times, senior Isaiah Stanback is the current frontrunner for the Sept. 3 game against Air Force, but strong play by sophomores Carl Bonnell and Johnny DuRocher has kept the race unusually close.
While some have speculated Stanback is the clear leader in the running for starter, the goal of the coaching staff is to pick one starter and stand behind him.
"I can't sit here and say we are never going to change quarterbacks," offensive coordinator Tim Lappano told the Times. "You never say never. But since the day we got here we've said we don't want the musical-chairs deal. We prefer to get a guy and go with him. Obviously, if it's not happening, you've got to try something else. But I think we'd like to go with a guy and stay with him."
