Huskies have a slamming road trip

UW softball by the numbers: two California cities, seven days, eight games and six wins.

The 13th-ranked Husky softball team wrapped up a solid road trip to Fullerton, Calif. and Stockton, Calif. with a solid 6-2 mark, culminating with a 10-2 rout of Nevada last Wednesday at the University of Pacific (UOP).

Freshman catcher Alicia Matthews went 2-3 with five RBIs including her first career grand slam to help improve the Huskies to 25-8 on the season.

The UW's offense was not as prolific the day before in a double-header with Pacific -- so the Dawgs did it with pitching.

The Huskies swept a day-night double-header from the Tigers, taking the first game 2-0 in nine innings and winning the nightcap 4-0.

Freshman pitcher Danielle Lawrie (14-5) tossed her fourth shutout of the year, holding UOP to four hits. Lawrie walked zero and struck out 15.

Sophomore hurler Caitlin Noble matched Lawrie's effort nicely. Noble two-hit UOP and struck out 13 en route to her sixth shutout of the season. She is 10-3 this year.

Before getting to Stockton, the Dawgs had a date at the Judi Garman Classic in Fullerton. In five games there, the UW won three and lost two, but beat two top-10 teams (at the time) -- Michigan and Louisiana-Lafayette.

While pitching has been strong for the Huskies, the UW ran into one of the nation's best in the opener of the Judi Garman Classic. University of Texas' ace Cat Osterman one-hit the Dawgs and struck out 19 as then-No. 4 Texas beat Washington 3-0.

But the UW rebounded, winning its next three against Michigan, Louisiana-Lafayette and host Cal-State Fullerton. The Huskies dropped the finale of the Judi Garman Classic to Texas A&M.

UW has won 11 of its last 13 and will look to take the momentum into next weekend as it opens Pac-10 play against Cal Friday.
