Roy named wooden Award finalist
March 29, 2006
Although the season is over for the Washington basketball team, the wins keep coming for Husky guard Brandon Roy.
A day after being named an Associated Press All-American, the senior was named one of five finalists for the John R. Wooden Award, one of the nation's top personal honors. Additionally, Roy was named to the Wooden All-American team.
Villanova's Randy Foye, Gonzaga's Adam Morrison, and Duke's J.J Redick and Shelden Williams are the four other finalists for the award, which will be announced April 8 at the Los Angeles Athletic Club. The five finalists will be invited to the ceremony that will be aired live at 2 p.m. EST on CBS.
The Wooden Award is given to the most outstanding college basketball player of the year, as decided by a panel of more than 1,000 voters consisting of members of the sports media and college basketball experts. The player's character and academic performance were also factored into the selections, along with overall performance.
Dee Brown (Illinois), Glen Davis (LSU), Kevin Pittsnogle (West Virginia), Allan Ray (Villanova) and Craig Smith (Boston College) rounded out the All-American team.
