Seahawks fill needs during NFL Draft, UW's Toledo goes in 4th
May 1, 2006
As the Super Bowl runner-up, the Seattle Seahawks held just two picks on day one of the 2006 NFL Draft. They made those picks count, going for defense with both of them. With the 31st selection in the first round, the Hawks selected cornerback Kelly Jennings from the University of Miami. Seattle's second-round pick, defensive end Darryl Tapp from Virginia Tech, will also fill a need on defense. The University of Washington's Joe Toledo was the only Husky taken among the 255 picks. The offensive tackle was drafted in the fourth round (No. 114 overall) by Miami.
M's take series from Baltimore
Seattle closer Eddie Guardado had to work out of two ninth-inning jams to secure a series win for the Mariners this weekend in Baltimore. Guardado escaped a bases-loaded situation Saturday during the M's 8-6 win and allowed a leadoff double in the ninth yesterday, but was able to work out of it to snag the save in a 4-3 victory. The Orioles won the first game of the series 5-2. The roadtrip continues for the Mariners this week with stops in Minnesota and Chicago.
