Admissions changes help with diversity

[img1]Though final enrollment numbers for this year are not yet in, the UW is expecting one of its most diverse freshman classes since 1998, when Initiative 200 first banned the use of race in university admissions in Washington state.[HTML_REMOVED]

Record numbers of Latino and black students have confirmed their enrollment for fall, and underrepresented groups like Pacific Islanders and American Indians have also shown gains, according to data from the UW Office of Admissions.[HTML_REMOVED]

The increases in minority enrollment are probably due in part to the new"holistic" admissions policy the UW implemented this year, said Director of Admissions Philip Ballinger. [HTML_REMOVED]
