U.N. adviser to speak on international cooperation

Gillian Sorenson, senior advisor and national advocate at the United Nations Foundation (UNF), will speak on the topic of "Working Together with the World; What[HTML_REMOVED]s In It for the U.S?" today in Kane Hall.[HTML_REMOVED]

Sorenson has worked with the United Nations for nearly a decade as both the special adviser for public policy for Secretary-General Boutros Boutros-Ghali and as assistant secretary-general for Secretary-General Kofi Annan. She has also represented the World Organization both in the United States and abroad. [HTML_REMOVED]

"It is a wonderful opportunity to have someone with such world experience to come visit the UW campus," said Lisa Glidden, instructor of international relations and Latin American politics. [HTML_REMOVED]

The event is sponsored by the Jackson School of International Studies and Pi Sigma Alpha, the political science honor society.[HTML_REMOVED]

"This event is important for every conscientious student," said Adel Sefrioui, a student coordinating the event. "In this world we live in today, we must be open-minded and aware of what others expect from us. The U.N. is one of those organizations we should respect and listen to."
