The Husky swim team pulled out home wins last weekend as the men's team beat a combined Seattle University and Simon Fraser squad, and the women defeated Pac-10 rival Oregon State.
The men's team won 112-82 on Friday night, putting its dual meet record at 2-3. The women battled the Beavers and came out on top 138.5-123.5, making their record 3-3 overall and 1-2 in the Pac-10.
The men took an early lead, winning eight of the first nine events. Junior Ivan Perhat had the fastest time this season in the 50-yard freestyle (20.83) and also won the 100 free (45.91). Career-best times also came from Jereme Barnett-Woods in the 1000 freestyle (9:37.24) and Jonathan Banker in the 100 backstroke with a time of 52.55.
"Right now we just have to let our bodies rest in order to be ready for the Pac-10s," said junior Mason Amick. "It's the one part of the season where it's fun."
Top swims from the women came from Kim Jasmer in the 1,000 freestyle, who broke the school record with a time of 9:53.35 and Jessica Buchanan, who placed first in the 200 breaststroke with the fastest time of the season (2:17.67). The Huskies then won the deciding final event in the 400 freestyle relay (3:28.18) with the team of Jasmer, Maggie Bever, Blythe Murray and Erin Campbell.
Washington will have a few weeks to rest and prepare for the Pac-10 Championships, which will take place Feb 14-17 for the women and Feb 21-24 for the men.
"I believe our team is getting more excited and focused on having an excellent taper and performing better than we ever have at Pac-10s," said junior Rachel Seely. "We are all confident in our training over the last five months so our expectations are very high."
