Junior forward Heidi McNeill flies into a layup during the game against UC Irvine. The Huskies won the game 87-69 and will be playing against Boise State tonight at 6.

After suffering its first regular season home loss to the Pepperdine Waves Tuesday, the (4-5) UW women's basketball team will look to rebound on the road tonight at Boise State.

Senior guard Emily Florence called the Pepperdine experience frustrating. Washington had trouble stopping Waves guard Dapahanie Kennedy, who scored 33 points on 13-for-23 shooting.

"We struggled a little bit tonight with her," Florence said Tuesday. "But I think that's about being a young team; we need to communicate a bit better. We struggled in that area, and we're going to have to work on that in practice this week a lot."

The UW women will face a 4-3 Boise State Broncos team that has yet to lose at home and is coming off a 73-64 victory over Oral Roberts.

Leading the scoring attack will be junior guard Tasha Harris, who is averaging 18.3 points per game and shooting 49.4 percent from the field this season. Another junior guard, Jessica Thompson, is second on the Broncos, averaging 14.6 points per game.

UW coach Tia Jackson said she wants to see the Husky women take care of their defensive assignments to compete against the Broncos.

"Boise State is another solid team," she said. "We're going to have to go out and play some really smart basketball and match them on their floor."

Following the match-up at Boise State, the Dawgs will come back home for two mid-December non-conference games against the 19th-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes and the Purdue Boilermakers.

The Husky women will also begin Pac-10 action during winter break, as they travel to face No. 12 Cal, No. 5 Stanford and unranked Washington State before winter quarter begins Jan. 7.

Cal and Stanford, both 7-1, will be the highest-ranked competition the Husky women face this season, barring a massive Pac-10 power shift.

Washington State, though, is struggling with a 2-5 record. The Cougars, who hired former Washington coach June Daugherty to lead WSU this season, have only averaged 51.7 points per game in their first seven contests and have not yet put up more than 70 points in a single game.

The Husky women will return home to play UCLA Jan. 10.
