Seattleites Beware: It's A "Zoo" Out There. Filmmakers Robinson Devor and Charles Mudede wanted to capture the magic of the Pacific Northwest and create "something mysterious and poetic." The result is [HTML_REMOVED]Zoo[HTML_REMOVED], a movie that explores, among many other topics, the unique subculture of bestiality. In the film, they examine one particularly tragic tale of an Enumclaw zoophile who died of a ruptured colon after riding bareback under his horse in 2005 [HTML_REMOVED] and you thought watching Brokeback Mountain was painful.
Flock of Penguins: If leather clad animals float your iceberg, then Farce of the Penguins might be right up your, uh, alley. This straight to DVD parody of last year's popular documentary March of the Penguins was written and directed by Full House's Bob Saget and features the voices of Samuel L. Jackson, Jason Alexander, Dane Cook, Lewis Black, Adam Duritz of the Counting Crows and many others.
Don't Dream; It's NOT Over: Ten years after playing their final farewell show on the steps of the Sydney Opera House, Australia's own Crowded House has decided to record a new album and go on tour. The band, whose hits include "Don't Dream It's Over," "Locked Out" and "Something So Strong," will kick off their comeback at the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival in late April. Speaking of Coachella ...
Rage Against the Dying of Rage: One of the three-day musicfest's huge headliners includes a very familiar and unexpected name: Rage Against The Machine. Zach de la Rocha and his ex-bandmates, who have since been backing Chris Cornell in Audioslave, have decided to let bygones be bygones [HTML_REMOVED] for one night, at least. Unfortunately, this exciting development is about as useless as a neutered horse for us Seattleites, as the concert is being held all the way down in Indio, Calif. Other Coachella performers that you won't get to see April 27-29 include Bjork, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Roots, The Decemberists and many more!

7:30 p.m., Meany Studio Theatre [HTML_REMOVED] The UW School of Drama presents The Bacchae (by Euripides, directed by Andrew Tsao). "The last and greatest of classic Greek tragedies, The Bacchae remains a powerful meditation on the nature of theatre, human frailty and the shocking consequences of arrogance. Through the 21st century mediums of the actor, media technology, music and dynamic movement, we crash through time and space to a new moment of crisis: the extreme theatrical experience where nothing is sacred." $8-$15 general, $10 students w/ID, $12 seniors. Additional performances Wednesdays through Sundays. Ends Feb. 11.
7:30 p.m., Meany Hall [HTML_REMOVED] Chamber Dance Company Concert. [HTML_REMOVED]Movies Opening Today:
The Messengers [HTML_REMOVED] Don't let the sunflowers fool you; this North Dakota farm is pushing up corpses faster than you can say "I see dead people." In The Messengers, the newly relocated Solomon family finds that there's more than meets the eye lurking in the shadows of their new home. At first, the family's youngest child, Ben, is the only one who can see what ails his clan, but soon the invading darkness becomes clearer than moonshine in broad daylight. Can producer Sam Raimi (Spiderman) and directors Oxide Pang Chun and Danny Pang (The Eye) deliver The Messengers from the evil of its clich[HTML_REMOVED]d premise? PG-13.
Because I Said So [HTML_REMOVED] Diane Keaton and Mandy Moore star as a mother and daughter who don't see eye to eye on the daughter's love life. Will Keaton and her two older daughters (Lauren Graham and Piper Perabo) be able to find the right man for Moore? PG-13.
Jonestown: The Life and Death of Peoples Temple [HTML_REMOVED] Pack up all the kiddies and don't forget the Kool-Aid! This movie explores the ultimate example of the perils of herd behavior. "On November 18, 1978, over 900 members of Peoples Temple died in the largest mass suicide/murder in history. What drew so many people across racial and class lines to the Peoples Temple? And how could such a diverse group be convinced to commit suicide? Using never-before-seen archival footage and survivor interviews, director Stanley Nelson and writer Marcia Smith tell the story of the people who followed preacher Jim Jones from Indiana to California and finally to the remote jungles of Guyana, South America, in a misbegotten quest to build an ideal society and rid the world of injustice," according to the official Web site, www.7thart.com. One week only. Varsity.
Absolute Wilson [HTML_REMOVED] "The legendary Robert Wilson (Einstein on the Beach, CIVIL warS, The Black Rider) is one of the most visionary theater artists of our time. Filmmaker Katharina Otto-Bernstein's richly provocative and moving portrait delivers a surprisingly candid look at Wilson's troubled and lonely childhood, his early learning disabilities and his fascination with the downtown New York avant-garde scene of the late '60s. What emerges is a life full of impressions, colors and rhythms, revealing how Wilson's early hardships ultimately shaped his groundbreaking aesthetic vision. Features a lively mix of interviews, including musician David Byrne, writer Susan Sontag, singer/songwriter Tom Waits, composer and collaborator Philip Glass and opera star Jessye Norman." (Landmark Theatres, www.landmarktheaters.com.) One week only. Varsity.
