Sophomore high-jumper Allison Lombardo won the women’s high jump by clearing the height of 5-2.25 in the UW Outdoor Preview at Husky Stadium Friday.

Despite the rain, hail and snow that occasionally hurtled through Husky Stadium, the UW track team persevered through its first outdoor meet of the season, its first meet after the NCAA Indoor Championships.

The UW Outdoor Preview had a pre-season feel to it, with the field of competitors largely consisting of Husky freshmen and sophomores facing Pacific Northwest schools such as Seattle University, the University of British Columbia and University of Alaska-Anchorage.

The UW women dominated several field events, despite the rough weather that forced them to move indoors and compete as exhibition status. In the pole vault, seven UW women placed in the top 10. Senior Kelley Divesta won the event, vaulting to a height of 13 feet, 5.75 inches. DiVesta achieved All-American status at the NCAA Indoor Championships two weeks ago and would have easily achieved the NCAA Regional qualifying mark had her jump been outdoors.

The Dawgs were also victorious in the high jump, the triple jump and the discus throw. Sophomore Allison Lombardo won the high jump, freshman Lindsey Fleishman won the triple jump and freshman Elisa Bryant won in the discus throw.

On the track, multi-event competitor senior Liz Fuller topped a busy day of events by winning the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.56 seconds.

On the men’s side, the UW runners crushed the competition in the 1500 meters by claiming the top four spots in the event. Sophomore Kelly Spady beat veteran Cal transfer, junior Jake Schmitt, for the win, with a time of 3 minutes and 55.84 seconds. The Washington men enter the outdoor season with a No. 9 national ranking, largely due to their 10th-place finish at the NCAA Indoor.

Freshman Miles Timpe was another winner on the track, taking the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 55.21 seconds.

The men did well in the field events as well, with senior Corey Fredericks snagging two wins in the long jump and the triple jump.

In the shot put, sophomore Cameron Elisara won the event with a throw of 49 feet, one-quarter inches.

However, the weather proved to be too much as the day went on, with increasing darkness and rain causing the men’s discus event to be canceled.

Next week, the Huskies will split their squad and head to Oregon and California to compete in the Pepsi Invitational and the Stanford Invitational, respectively.
