Despite having the best final round for the UW, sophomore Molly Aronsson tied for 32nd at 19-over 235 for the tournament.

The UW women’s golf team spent two days of spring break in Eugene, Ore., where the Dawgs competed in the Oregon Duck Invitational March 24 and 25.

The team shot 20-over 308 in the final round to finish the tournament in fourth place with the total score of 59-over 923. University of California shot 48-over 912 to secure third place, while host University of Oregon won the tournament with a score of 36-over 900. UC-Davis was the runner-up, scoring 40-over 904.

UW’s fourth-place finish matched their season’s best since the Spartan Invitational in San Jose, Calif., March 3 and 4, where the golfers also placed fourth.

Freshmen Anya Alvarez and Karinn Dickinson led the Huskies in Oregon. Alvarez finished with a score of 13-over 229, tying for 16th place, andDickinson finished with a score of 14-over 230, tying for 19th place.

“I worked on hitting greens in regulation and making putts,” Dickinson said as she described how she prepared for this tournament.

Sophomore Molly Aronsson came back strong with a score of 1-over 73 to finish the final round. Aronsson scored 7-over 79 and 11-over 83 in the first two rounds. Aronsson’s combined score of 19-over 235 earned her a tie for 32nd place.

“I think the biggest factor in the third round was trust,” Aronsson said. “I had three birdies in the last five holes, which helped my score.”

Sophomore Christina Yoon shot a 22-over 238, finishing in a tie for 43rd place while freshman Nicole Ferrero shot a 24-over 240, finishing in a tie for 46th place.

Yoon said her performance in this tournament wasn’t as good as she would have liked compared to the UNLV Rebel Spring Invitational.

“I think a lot of us were unprepared [for the tournament], but we are trying to get back in the flow of performing well,” Yoon said.

Sophomore Molly Boyle and freshman Katie Saucier tied for 58th place while competing as individuals. Each scored a 29-over 245.

The top individual in the tournament was Oregon freshman Kendra Little. She earned a score of 2-under 214.

Next up, the Huskies will continue on the road, as they head to Tempe, Ariz., this weekend to compete in the Lady Sun Devil Invitational.
