On May 6, a UWPD officer was conducting a routine building check at Denny Hall about five minutes after midnight.

“We check the campus buildings after they close to make sure that only authorized people are there,” UWPD Assistant Chief Ralph Robinson said. “If they’re not authorized, we make sure that they leave.”

According to the UWPD, the officer conducting the check noticed that a light was on in room 306 and the door was unlocked. The officer opened the door to find a woman in the room.

“She was carrying a bag of clothing and appeared to be a transient,” Robinson said. The officer ran the woman’s name and found no outstanding warrants for her arrest.

“The officer gave her a trespassing warning and told her not to come back,” Robinson said.

On May 7, a custodian called the UWPD to report that she had heard noises followed by a loud crash coming from the bushes near the south side of the Music Building. Police responded to the call to find that one of the windows on the first floor had been broken.

“There was glass on the floor but no evidence to be collected,” Robinson said. Police gathered photo evidence at the scene but there are no suspects.

On May 8, officers responded to a report of a disturbance at Haggett Hall. When police arrived, they found a young male student in the bushes near Whitman Court. The underage student was intoxicated.

The police attempted to escort the student inside, where they were notified by an RA that the disturbance report had been made pertaining to another male student resident, a friend of the student already in custody. The police went to seventh floor of the north tower of Haggett to investigate.

“The student was found lying on the floor near a puddle of vomit,” Robinson said.

Both students were written up as minors in possession and driven to the UW Medical Center for detoxification.

On May 10, a UWPD officer pulled over a Ford Escort driving northbound on 25th Avenue Northeast at 11:55 p.m. The car did not have its headlights on.

“When the officers caught up to the vehicle, the driver got out of the car and advanced toward the officers,” Robinson said. “The officers repeatedly told the driver to get back in his car, but he seemed confused and had to be repeatedly commanded.”

The driver finally got back into his car and was approached by the officer.

“He had bleary, watery eyes,” Robinson said. “When asked if he had been drinking, he said, ‘Yes, I had drinks with dinner.’ When asked if he knew how many, he said, ‘No, I didn’t count.’”

The UWPD administered a field sobriety test, which the man failed. He was taken into custody and cited for driving under the influence.
