Crime blotter

This past Wednesday, one student was written up for a drug violation near the N8 parking lot. The police confiscated an item commonly referred to as a “bong” and a “green vegetable material” suspected of being marijuana, UWPD sergeant Doug Schulz said.
Suspicious green vegetation aside, it seems that Friday that was the busiest day for the UWPD last week.
During the day, two students were victims of laptop theft. One student’s laptop was stolen straight out of a dorm room in McCarty.
“There was no appearance of forced entry,” Schulz said.
The second laptop disappeared from the Gallagher Library in William Gates Hall.
“The person got up to use the restroom and left his laptop unattended,” Schulz said. “We get a lot of that so we keep reminding people not to leave their stuff unattended in the libraries.”
A bicycle also went missing that day. The bike was cable-locked to a rack near Hitchcock Hall.
“The thief cut through the lock,” Schulz said.
Another call to the UWPD that day was about a woman who displayed erratic behavior as she attempted to board a bus near the Roosevelt Clinic. The bus driver was concerned, so he reported her to the police, UWPD said.
“She seemed to be out of control,” Schulz said.
The woman was admitted to the UW Medical Center for further evaluation.
That same evening, police escorted two people off campus for loitering near the back stairs of the Burke Museum. Schulz described that staircase as a common overnight sleeping place for transients.
