  • A message from our Publisher

Welcome to The Daily Alumni Web site!

While serving as the publisher in the last few years I've had the opportunity to meet several former The Daily employees - within the community and those who wander in to read their quotes on the newsroom wall. The one consistent theme I've heard is the connection and sense of "family" that is grown by working so closely with so many people for so many hours.

The Daily Alumni Web site is to help that sense of family grow. It doesn't matter when you worked at The Daily - during the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, or even with the last few years - if you spent your college career within The Daily walls, you're family.

Our plans include building The Daily Family Network - which will allow alumni to find one another, or assist those who are making the jump from college media to professional media. We hope this will open the door to more opportunities for current The Daily staff.

We are also now pursuing fundraising for capital improvements, training, conferences, and scholarships. We also hope to have alumni who have found success in the professional world return and share their knowledge with our student staff members.

Please feel free to come by The Daily offices to reminisce, pour through our archives, read the walls, and visit with student staff.

    Thanks,
    Kristin

    A message from our Editor-in-Chief

Welcome to The Daily’s alumni site! As a college senior, I'm in the process of wading through what seems like both a limited and endless sphere of opportunities open to me in the journalism field. Do I want to work at a major daily publication? Do I want to pack my bags and freelance in Africa? Should I just stay in school and get an actual degree in Journalism?

I don't really know what I will do. Being a French and comparative literature major who has proficiency in multiple languages and two study abroad experiences, I will most likely pursue some sort of writing career in the international field.

What I'm more sure of is that working at The Daily during the past couple of years has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life, without which I wouldn't have any of the options available to me now. I'm excited about the directions The Daily is moving toward, including the prospect of a more interactive Daily alumni networking Web site.

A great resource for students is the advice and support from those who have come before them. Without the encouragement I've received from advisers, mentors and even Daily alumni, I might not be where I am today. I highly encourage alumni to return to The Daily to find their quotes on the walls and share their own experiences, knowledge and guidance.

    Thank you,

    Arla Shephard
